It was once common practice in the homes of the wealthy to polish cotto slabs hand one by one by hand with an abrasive stone. This created a beautifully smooth and shiny cotto floor that can still be found in many older houses.

Ferrone’s Levigato floor is a modern recreation of these traditional cotto floors. Using specialized machinery, cotto slabs are individually polished during production (instead of after installation, as once was the practice). The results is a perfectly smooth and brilliant cotto floor.

Because Cotto Imprunetino is so hard and compact, it is possible to employ the special processing technique that creates the unique look of the Levigato cotto floor.
