Import DWG files:

You can import CAD files into Showcase in many different ways:

From the Open/Create Scene dialog box. (Autodesk generally recommends this method.)
By selecting File > Import > Import Models.
By dragging the file into Showcase.

Import FBX files:

FBX is an interoperability file format that is developed by Autodesk to facilitate exchange between applications as the following: Maya, MotionBuilder, Mudbox, and 3ds Max.

You will also find that certain third-party and propriety applications are supported. With FBX, transferring files is much more smooth and efficient, more data is retained, and you will find you have a more efficient workflow.

You can import FBX files into Showcase in the following ways:

From the Open/Create Scene dialog box. (Autodesk recommends this method.)
By selecting File > Import > Import Models.
By dragging the file into Showcase.

In all cases, the Import FBX File dialog box opens.

Showcase detects the Up-Axis and Unit properties of the file and will show them in the information box.

Select which elements (if applicable) of the FBX file you wish to import:

Models: For example, if you want to import an object created in 3ds Max.
Animations: If you wish to apply keyframed animations to objects in the scene; see FBX animation import.
Cameras: You may want to create shots in your scene; should you select this, you need to expand Shot Import Options to select which cameras to import. See Create shots from an FBX file.
